CTU Runanga Calls for Police Action to Stop

Te Runanga O Nga Kaimahi Maori o Aotearoa (New Zealand Council of Trade Unions Runanga) have reiterated the CTU Biennial Conference resolution to repeal the Terrorism Suppression Act.

Syd Keepa, CTU Runanga Convenor said “The Runanga is appalled at the irresponsible use of the Terrorism Suppression Act on political groups and Maori communities.”

Mr Keepa on behalf of the Runanga called for the police to stop their actions and instead promote security, safety and peace in all societies.

“The blatant use of the Act to suppress political democracy risks the perception that New Zealand could become a police state,” he said. “The Runanga calls for calm of our Rangatahi and to resist any attempts to respond with violence and to retain our dignity through a peaceful united front,” Mr Keepa said.
