Going Beyond Minimums To Quality, Decent Work

Going beyond minimum entitlements and placing decent, quality work at the centre of our social and economic development policies is essential, CTU secretary Carol Beaumont said at the launch of 'Decent Work: Charting our Progress' at Parliament today.

"Too many people's lives are blighted by the absence of Decent Work. This absence drives poverty, discrimination, insecurity and political unrest and huge suffering of men, women and children globally."

"The International Labour Organisation promotes Decent Work as an organising framework firmly rooted in the core principles that labour is not a commodity and that poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere."

"New Zealand has been supportive of the ILO since its inception and has been very active in developing the Decent Work concept."

"The work we have done in developing 'Decent Work Charting Our Progress' is recognised internationally for the quality of tripartite involvement, and I acknowledge Business New Zealand the Minister and officials for their genuine commitment to this process," Beaumont said.
