“Leave No One Behind” The Focus of Maori Workforce Hui Today
“For New Zealand to succeed, we need Maori workers to succeed. That is the focus of our Hui today – making sure we ‘leave no one behind’,” Council of Trade Unions vice president Maori Sharon Clair said.
The CTU is today hosting “Leave No One Behind” - a collaborative Hui focused on Maori workforce development, with support from Hui Taumata Trust, Business New Zealand and the Department of Labour.
“The Hui is aimed at developing multi partner approaches in key areas of Maori workforce development,” Sharon Clair said.
“We will be profiling potential projects and seeking the input of a range of stakeholders into these initiatives.”
“For us, a key feature of the potential projects is the use of Matauranga Maori concepts which emphasise the creative potential of Maori workers. The projects encourage participants to realise their potential in skills, productivity, lifelong learning and higher earnings.”
The Hui, which got underway in Wellington a short time ago, will discuss Maori workforce development projects including mentoring for rangatahi Maori, workplace productivity, career guidance and information for Maori women and improving Maori participation in industry training.
