What Will National Do To Lift Wages?

"Only higher wages will ensure that all families can provide lunches and sports gear for their kids as families were all able to in the '60s and 70s," CTU president Ross Wilson said today, in response to John Key’s speech in Christchurch.

"New Zealand is still dealing with a legacy of social deficit from the 1990s, driven in no small part by our chronic low wages, which are over 30% lower than in Australia."

"Unions are working hard to build higher minimum wages, encourage collective bargaining for industry standards in pay and conditions and develop national skills and industry transformation strategies."

"National needs to spell out the details of their policies in these areas."

"We all agree wages are too low, National themselves highlighted the wage gap with Australia at the last election. What specific steps will National take to boost workers’ wages?" Ross Wilson concluded.
